Video Snip: “A Dose of Springtime Joy: Ruby-Throated Hummingbird”

This is from 2015, but is still just so cool! The backstory: I’d come home to find this tiny weary traveler sitting on our back deck, too weak to even make his way to the sugar water I quickly put out for him. So I tried hand-feeding. He guzzled and guzzled and slowly perked up (my favorite part is when he flips up his tail feathers a bit!) Eventually he flew up onto the railing, then to a nearby tree. Soon he was back at the feeder—feathers all smoothed, building strength for the season ahead. And this is why my hummer feeder goes out plenty early now!
